Fifi.Org (AS6461)

The Traceroute tool allows you to see how packets travel in the Internet: it shows the path taken by packets between Fifi.Org and any other given host:
Host name:
The machine name (eg. www.fifi.org) or an IP address (eg. 127.0.0.1) to probe.
Traces count:
The number of packet probes to send to the above host. More probes will yield increased accuracy, but the trace will take longer to complete.
Resolve host names:
Whether or not you want to find the names of the machines on the path.
Traceroute can only determine the IP addresses of the hosts on the path. By checking the Resolve host names box, Traceroute will try to find out which name matches the address. Some hosts have no names, and might still be shown as IP addresses, even if this option is active.
Once the trace is complete, you get an ordered list of hosts along with the number of times they answered, and how fast they answered to the probes.

In the traceroute output below, the red bars represent the mean latency. The cyan bars represent percentage of probes returned. The hostname from the first probe is preserved, and asterisks (*) are added for additional hostnames returned from probes. The same goes for IP addresses. The three numbers in parenthesis seperated by slashes are the minimum, mean, and maximum times received from all probes on that line.

Global Crossing (AS3549)
LOOKING GLASS UTILITIES
Looking Glass Utilities provide expanded, drill-down information relative to backbone routing and efficiency of the network. Its capabilities include Traceroute (Router to Host / Router to Router) and Ping (Router to Router / Router to Host).
A more detailed explanation of Looking Glass utilities is provided as follows:
- Router to Router Ping - Allows you to view round trip time between any two Global Crossing nodes, at the same time validating whether a site is "live."
- Router to Host Ping - Allows you to view round trip time between a selected Global Crossing node and a specified IP address or hostname, at the same time validating whether a site is "live."
- Router to Router Traceroute - Allows you to view all router hops encountered in the path between two Global Crossing nodes.
- Router to Host Traceroute - Allows you to view all router hops encountered in the path between a Global Crossing node and a specified address.

Traceroute program lets us to see the route of IP datagram which follows from one Internet host to other. The first implementation of Traceroute belongs to Van Jacobson. He wrote it from a suggestion by Steve Deering. Some details about traceroute and other network tools are on the site of Berkley's Network Research Group staff that Van Jackobson worked for. Other version of traceroute MTR was implemented by Matt Kimball. MTR combines the functionality of the traceroute and ping programs in a single network diagnostic tool and contains also the graphical version. Of course, all these tools were implemented for Unix and are easy accessible for getting sources and instalation. About Microsoft case of Traceroute Applications see, for example, on the site Microsoft Internet Control Message Protocol

Cogent (AS174)
This Looking Glass provides you with information relative to backbone routing and network efficiency, providing you with the same transparency that customers on our network receive directly.
Traceroute allows a user to follow a packet through the network to a specific destination. It shows the domain, IP address, and the roundtrip packet times as it traces the route to the destination.
Ping can be used to show whether or not a device with a valid internet address or domain name can return packets sent to it by a specified server.

Please note that traceroutes can appear similar to port scans. If you see a suspected port scan alert, for example from your firewall, with a series of ports in the range 33434 - 33465, coming from www.usc.edu it is probably a reverse traceroute from our web based reverse traceroute server. Please do NOT report this to us, it will almost certainly be a waste of both of our times. For more on this see Traceroute security issues.

Traceroute From ETSI (AS8567) France to your place
Traceroute is a program that shows you the route over the network between two systems, listing all the intermediate routers a connection must pass through to get to its destination. It can help you determine why your connections to a given server might be poor, and can often help you figure out where exactly the problem is. It also shows you how systems are connected to each other, letting you see how your ISP connects to the Internet as well as how the target system is connected.
